**Physical Demands**: The work is performed mostly outdoors in rugged terrain; to include very steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. The position requires physical exertion such as but not limited, driving over unpaved roads, walking over rough terrain or inclines, standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching and stooping, digging, hiking, lifting, biking, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work may involve early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working on holidays. It can require carrying heavy backpacks, tools, rescue equipment, or other loads.
**Work Environment**: Most work will be performed out of doors, in all types of weather conditions, terrain, and elevations. Work may take place in an extremely remote environment and may require primitive camping and living skills for upwards of two weeks in duration. Indoor duties are performed in a normal office setting.

### Responsibilities
**Duties**: The employee will perform varied tasks that require a general knowledge of program areas such as enforcement of use requirements or natural and historical information interpretation and development. As a Park Ranger your duties will include but will not be limited to:
* Administers operations, such as day-to-day operation of a recreation site.
* Makes surveys to locate or collect various types of information such as soil erosion, deer transects, and water or air quality.
* Carries out resource management or protection work, such as evaluation of resource conditions, or enforcement of use requirements.
* Makes group and individual contact to provide information or answer questions about recreational activities, historical, cultural or natural site information.
### Travel Required
50% or less - The duties of this position may require the incumbent to work early morning hours, night hours, or daytime hours and may require working holidays.

This position requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade or appropriate education, or a combination of education and experience.
### Qualifications
**Specialized Experience Requirements**: In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - **please be sure to include this information in your resume**. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-04 for the GS-05) of the position to be filled.
**To qualify at the GS-5 level**: Applicants must possess at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include: Explaining regulations to park visitors; providing information and advice on park activities and resources; collecting fees; issuing reservations and permits; conducting guided tour programs; maintaining recreation facilities or trails; or monitoring special recreation permits;
**OR** Successful completion of four year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours of related course work;
**OR** A combination of experience and education to meet total experience as stated above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**For volunteer work you must identify the amount of time worked for each volunteer position including the dates (mm/dd/yy) along with the number of hours worked per week. Please ensure this information is clearly listed on your resume.**

**If using education to qualify:**Bachelor's graduate level degree major study must be in: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in the position to be filled. You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
